Scrappy Happy Patchwork Blanket: The Process

Hello friends! Welcome to my first blog post here at lovexstitchesxjenna! I’m glad you’re here :)

Today, I will be sharing the process of creating my Scrappy Happy Patchwork Blanket

Step 1: Using solid pink fabric, cut out (288) 2.5-inch squares.

Step 2: Using leftover scraps of various blue fabrics, cut out (288) 2.5-inch squares.

Step 3: Sew one pink square to one blue square, right sides together. Continue until all the squares have been paired up; you should now have 288 pink/blue rectangles.

Step 4:

Sew one pink/blue rectangle to a second pink/blue rectangle to create a 4-patch square. Continue until all the pink/blue rectangles have been sewn into (144) 4-patch squares.

Step 5:

Sew (4) 4-patch squares together to create a 16-patch square. Continue this process until you have (36) 16-patch squares.

Step 5: The quilt top is completed by sewing (6) 16-patch squares together per row, for a total of 6 rows. Altogether, if you’re looking at each individual square, the completed quilt top should be (24) 2-inch squares by (24) 2-inch squares.

Step 6: Baste and quilt as desired. I chose to do some straight-line quilting using my sewing machine.

Step 6 (cont’d):

My blankets are backed with anti-pill fleece, utilizing 2 layers of fabric instead of the typical 3 layers in a quilt. In this case, I used this cutie dog-print fleece to contrast the colors on the front.

Step 7:

Using the same solid pink fabric from earlier, cut out 2.5-inch WOF strips to create and attach the binding. I decided to attach my binding using a wavy decorative stitch.

Step 8: Cuddle and enjoy your new Cotton + Fleece blanket <3

Cheers,

Jenna
